Composite Fillings
White fillings are also known as composite tooth-coloured fillings.
They offer a natural looking alternative to amalgam which is no longer used as often in todays modern dentistry.
Composite materials are made from a mixture of powdered glass quartz, silica or other ceramic particles and have been used in dentistry for over 40 years. Once considered lacking in strength and durability compared to amalgam, today the materials prove much stronger and just as long lasting, providing normal chewing functions.
White fillings
White fillings are now regularly placed in all teeth, but may take slightly longer to complete than the amalgam During treatment preparation the composite material is colour matched to the natural tooth shade, bonded to the enamel, and set using a high intensity light.
